You know I love cigars, and always have some with me when traveling, so when the folks at Holt’s Cigar Company asked me if I was interested in reviewing some cigars I jumped at the chance. Arturo Fuente, one of the premier cigar makers, has been in business since 1912 and is consistently rated for making some of the best cigars in the world. Arturo Fuente is the most popular cigar brand in the US and offers some of the most coveted, and often hard-to-obtain, cigars.
I am reviewing the Arturo Fuente Double Chateau cigar. The Double Chateau cigar is blended from the Fuente family’s private reserve of aged tobacco. Available in a smooth smoking Connecticut shade wrapper, the Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper and the dark, chocolate brown, Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. Each Arturo Fuente Double Chateau cigar is aged to perfection before being individually wrapped in a cedar sleeve.
This review covers the Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Sun Grown and Maduro Cigars. Since I wanted to give you a good review, I also enlisted my friend and neighbor, Jimmy, to help out. While I am a daily cigar smoker and always have a good cigar while traveling, Jimmy on the other hand smokes 1-2 a month.
Let’s start with the Double Chateau Sun Grown

Construction: 9/10
Wrapped in a cedar sleeve. You have to take care in removing the sleeve so not to damage the wrapper. Once removed, overall nice construction. Veins are small, no soft spots, no discolorations.
Flavor: 19/25
Very mild peppery flavor in the first 1/3 of the cigar with a hint of cedar. The second 1/3 the peppery taste diminishes and the flavor stayed smooth with a little bit of coffee flavor and the final 1/3 ended a little sweet. Overall a very good medium smoke.
Draw: 10/10
Consistent smooth draw from start to finish. Nothing disappoints more than a tight draw and this will not disappoint. From start to finish the draw was perfect.
Burn: 8/10
The burn stayed fairly consistent even though half way through I did need to relight once.
Ash: 5/5
The ash stayed firm and held well throughout and produced a greyish white color.
Smoke: 5/5
The smoke was not billowing but did produce a satisfying smoke.
Impression: 33/35
Overall impressions of the Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Sun Grown is that it meets the standards as you would expect from an Arturo Fuente Cigar. A good solid medium strength smoke from a stellar brand. Not overpowering so you can enjoy anytime of day. Will last 45-60 minutes and can be paired with a good coffee or, in my case, a nice single malt.

Construction: 10/10
Overall the construction is on par with what you would expect from Fuente. No large veins, cap is tight, oily Maduro wrapper.
Flavor: 23/25
I really liked the flavor profile of the Maduro. Initially got the taste of sweet tobacco, leather and a hint of spice. This flavor stayed pretty much constant throughout the entire cigar.
Draw: 10/10
One thing I have found with Arturo Fuente Cigars is that they know how to roll them. This cigar is no exception as the draw is perfect. Looking back, I don’t think I have ever had an issue with the draw on any Fuente cigar.
Burn: 10/10
Burn is even throughout the entire smoke
Ash: 5/5
A white firm ash throughout the smoke.
Smoke: 4/5
The Maduro produced a decent amount of smoke
Impression: 33/35
This is a good cigar. In general, I like a Maduro and this did not disappoint. The flavor profile was consistent. The construction and draw were spot on and from start to finish and it was a satisfying smoke. A great cigar for a round of golf, sipping whiskey with friends or a day out on the boat.

Construction: 9/10
Good overall construction. Dark oily Maduro wrapper with no blemishes or noticeable large veins.
Flavor: 23/25
Good flavor throughout the smoke from start to finish. It didn’t really change much I got hints of dried ancho pepper, light earthy flavor and sweet tobacco.
Draw: 9/10
Excellent draw from pre light to finish.
Burn: 10/10
Good even burn throughout the smoke.
Ash: 4/5
Nice firm ash from start to finish
Smoke: 4/5
Nice amount of smoke without being overpowering.
Impression: 33/35
I like the Maduro better than the Sun Grown. From start to finish it had a consistent flavor, burned well, had excellent construction and the smell and taste throughout was really good. I would definitely buy this again and again.
Rating 92/100
Based on having the opportunity to review both the Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Sun Grown and Maduro cigars, I can honestly say both are solid cigars that anyone would be happy to have in their humidor on a regular basis.
The Arturo Fuente family of cigars have price points from moderate to expensive but the Double Chateau series ranges in the $6.80-$7.00 range with a box of 20 selling in the range of $121-$125. If you are like me, I love going to a cigar lounge and picking up a nice cigar but I find it more convenient and more economical to shop online and have them delivered. I that find that Holt’s Cigar Company has a wide range of cigars and are very competitively priced. Their customer service is on point and I love doing business with them. Next time you are looking to purchase some top quality cigars check them out.
