They look like they should be guarding the Gates of Hell or at least some medieval castle and not a cooler full of soft drinks.

Those metal muzzles definitely make them look frightening! I wouldn’t dare grab a soda from that cooler.
I saw several of these dogs from that breed the day I took the photo. The photo really doesn’t do them justice, they were huge.

Those are probably the sweetest dogs ever, but by putting such a freaky looking a muzzle on them the owner has ensured that no one will ever reach for a soft drink again. I think the technical term for this is the “Anthony Hopkins effect”.
It does tend to discourage shoplifters.
Feel bad for the dogs they are probably great dogs but because some people might over react they are muzzled.
